What Is The Size Of A Throw Blanket?

Throw blankets measure 50 inches by 60 inches. This is the standard measurement. However, different brands of throw blankets may have different measurements. Throw blankets are not as large as your bed blankets. This is why we wrap them around shoulders to keep warm when we are off the bed. The size of the throw blanket makes it a one-person blanket as opposed to a large bed blanket. Throw blankets are also made from different types of fabrics from bed blankets.

How To Make A Throw Blanket?

Step 1. Assemble your materials. You will two different types of fabric. Each of these fabrics will measure 60 inches. Also, make sure that the fabrics are in different colors so that you can differentiate the two sides when the throw pillow is complete. These make the two-sided throw pillow with two layers of fabric. You will also need lots of sewing thread, scissors, pins, marking pens, or chalk. If all you have is plain fabric, you can paint the fabrics to differentiate between them.

Step 2. Cut the fabric. The standard measurement of a throw pillow is 50 inches by 60 inches. Place your fabrics on a cutting mat.  Measure the fabric and mark the dimensions that you need for your throw pillow. You can use a rotary cutter for a fast and accurate cut.

If you have either or both of your fabrics being fuzzy, make sure to have a vacuum nearby. You will need it to clean up the dust from your fuzzy fabrics before it spreads everywhere in the room and causes a mess.

Step 3. Place the pieces of fabric together. Make sure that the wrong sides of both fabrics are facing out. The sides that you will want to touch the skin when using the throw blankets should touch each other on the inside. Pin the edges together all around the fabric and leave enough room to make your stitches on the fabrics.

Step 4. Start sewing all-around your fabrics. Leave some space while you get near the end of the fabrics. This space will allow you to turn the fabrics inside out. Cut off any excess fabric around the sewn edges, then turn the fabrics to the right sides now facing up. Make sure that the corners of your blanket look nice. You can use a pencil to push them out completely so that they are sharp and presentable.

Step 5. Sew the small opening on one end that you had left to turn your fabrics right side up. You have finished making your throw blanket. However, it is still not ready to snuggle with.

Step 6. Make a topstitch all around the throw blanket. This will hold the blanket together and hide your stitches and seams.

Step 7. Make a pattern for the edges of your throw blanket. Use a fabric that stands out from the rest of the fabric. Let it have more color to decorate the blanket. Most times, throw blankets are left without additional decoration on them. Sew the pattern all around the blanket with a sewing machine.

Step 8. Your throw blanket is now complete. You can decide to rest on the couch after your task and snuggle under it as you watch a movie.
