How To Finish Ends Of Decorative Cording?

Finishing the ends of decorative cording is a significant thing, and it should be wrapped in tape. By using sealant or glue, you must seal both ends. Also, it would help if you sealed the fresh cut ends while cutting a piece of cording.

You can heat the end of the decorative coding using a lighter or torch till the end starts melting and gives liquid. After that, you must use a pair of pliers through which you can solder the ends.

While doing this step, you must be careful, so it is unnoticeable. Several other processes are also there, which you will get to know slowly as you read the steps. Go ahead with it.

Things Needed To Carry Out The Task

To carry out any project, you need to have the basic things; otherwise, you cannot complete it. You do not need any extra things in this process, and the basic ones are present at everyone’s house. They are:

Beads: At least, you need to have one bead so you can start the projects. If you are burning using a torch, then you do not need to. But if the exterior and interior cordings are different, you must have at least one.

Glue: Have glue as you have to apply it on the interior cordings above to put the exterior one. At times, you may need more glue if you have to apply again.

So, before starting the project, you must ensure that you have sufficient glue.

A Torch Or Lighter: You must have a torch or a lighter if you want to burn the end to get a proper finish. It helps you burn the decorative cording and get the ends.

A Comb: To comb the thread ends, you may need a comb, and it can be the regular one you use.

Scissors: Irrespective of what sewing project you are doing, scissors are the most important thing you must always have. Using that, you can trim the extra layers of thread and level it.

Needle: It is always better to have the needle set with you. With that, you can use anyone that you require.

Method 1: Start Looping Around The Cording

The decorative cording is available in the market, which you can buy, and it comes about an inch. The steps one should follow to make a tassel in the end are:

Step 1: You can fold the thread to come to half and start looping around the cording.

Step 2: Now, you must wrap two strands tightly on all sides of the cording. After that, you must thread the two ends and poke under the wraps via the cording on the sharp needle.

Step 3: Then, by using the blunt needle end, you can comb the strands roughly.

Step 4: Now, you must blot dry the end and start to comb the end gently using a wide-tooth comb.

Step 5: After that, you can trim off the extra part.

Method 2: When You Have Two Different Cordings

At times, you will find the interior and exterior cordings are different. The interior may be more cotton string, while the exterior can be of more synthetic thread. If you do not want a two-toned tassel, you can consider two things to go ahead with.

In The End Put A Bead

Step 1: First, you have to tape the cording end and then start to thread the bead onto the cording. After that, take the cording, and about it, you must place a circle of glue.

Step 2: Now, you must take off the bead over the sticky cording and keep it like that so that the drying can take place. After the glue gets dried up, you must check if the beads seem to be secured.

Step 3: If you do not find it perfect, you must push the bead up the cording and apply more glue to it. Now you must move the glue and let it dry.

Step 4: After the bead gets secured, you can trim the extra part below the bead. After that, it looks like the decorative cording is safe for children.

Making A Tassel Above The Cording

Step 1: It requires patience but gives a better finishing in the end. To start with, you have to look for some thread that compliments or matches the cording.

Step 2: In most cases, the floss strand is a better choice to go with. At least two strands will be there, and you must wrap the thread two to three times around the coding.

Step 3: Pull it tight, following which you must knot both ends together. If possible, you must try to leave the short end longer. It allows you to trim the extra parts.

Below the trap, you must cut the extra cording ¼ inch.

Step 4: Now, you must cut a piece of cardboard a little wider than the finished tassel. Then you have to wrap the thread all around the cardboard and wrap it at least 22 times.

Step 5: You must put scissors between the thread and cardboard and then cut the threads. On the work surface, you must lay the threads down and place the cording above. It should be done in a way that the thread you wrap is in the center.

Step 6: On the cording top, you must lay all the pieces of thread. After that, wrap the longer end tightly around the pieces. Make sure you do this at least two to three times.

Step 7: You must knot both ends together and check if the pieces will cover the cording throughout. If it does not, you must try to shift until it does. If you want to fasten the tassel securely, you can thread the wrapping thread using a sharp needle.

Step 8: Once you complete it, you must wrap it thoroughly. Now you can fold the upper half and smooth them out patiently. Let the wrapping thread short end hand with the others and get the long end to the surface.

Step 9: Now, you must win the longer end all around and catch the loop. Fix it, so the loop is ¼ inch below the place where the thread has started to fold. Till you get a nice thread ring, you must wind the longer end.

Step 10: Thread the long end, and on the ring, you must insert the needle and bring it out in the middle of the tassel. Dampen and trim the tassel to the required length.

Step 11: For variations, you can bind two ends of the commercial cording using the thread. It will make a single tassel that will cover the cording ends.

Which Process Takes The Lesser Amount Of Time In Finishing Decorative Cording?

The first process where you have to burn the end with a lighter or torch is the easiest one. It also does not take more than a few minutes, following which you can get clean ends.

However, you can also follow the other processes as they are as effective as the above one. When you start the project, make sure you have all the things with you. It will help you continue with the process without needing to have unfinished ends.

What Do You Get By Finishing Ends Of Decorative Cordings?

By finishing the ends of the decorative cordings, you can use them for a long time, and the threads won’t come out. By trimming, you can increase the aesthetic appearance, and it is not at all expensive.

Most importantly, you can do the process at home by yourself by following the above steps. It will make the garment look expensive and trendy. It also increases the performance of the product, and the threads do not come out.

When you do not finish the ends, it will look improper, so you must always keep this in mind.
